For our first year, we left one bunch per vine on about 10 vines so our kids could watch the changes in the fruit and see what Mommy and Daddy are working towards with the vineyard. They weren’t very excited until this morning’s walk through the vines.
Very animatedly, I called them over to “look at what happened to our grapes!”
The two-year old was largely unimpressed until the five-year-old suggested we pick the “purple ones.” Our walk finished quickly to keep little fingers from plucking individual berries from the bunches.
As a parent, one of the great rewards is witnessing the milestones of my children and celebrating with them. I feel a similar sense of celebratory pride seeing the purple hues of a few berries in the vineyard – not only have we kept them alive, but they’re thriving.
